The design of St. Foy shows that it was a pilgrimage spot because it's an abbey, so that means there was a monastery there, and also because other churches along that route were very similar to this church. Relics were used to prey to, because people thought that they had special powers because they were usually related to God and religion. One of the symbolic attributes is the tall walls, which is from the "race" that everyone was having to have built the tallest church. Also the fact that the nave and the transept meet and intersect, so from above it looks like a cross.
